Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to assist large diameter auger drilling in Civil construction and Drilling. This unit is appropriate for those working in drillers assistant roles.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Element: Plan and prepare for assisting with large diameter auger drilling
  • Access, interpret and apply assist large diameter auger drilling documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • Select and wear personal protective equipment and protective appropriate for the work activity

  • Insert/remove augers and extension pipe to and from the drill string and assist with auger to auger connections
  • Regularly maintain cleanliness around the hole collar by removing spoil only when rotation is stopped
  • Observe housekeeping and site safety measures while conducting auger assistance
